Ponggol (Hock Kee) Seafood Restaurant was founded in 1969, at Punggol Point. Founder, Mr Ting Choon Teng has a belief that “offering quality and fresh seafood at affordable prices” is the way his business should operate. His creativity and belief created several successful recipes to entice the tastebuds of his dinners. The cheap and good food served at the restaurant was a draw to retain his patrons. Over the years, the restaurants has managed to successfully attract diners from all over Singapore. During the peak evenings, they serve an average of 700 customers and a quarter of them were tourists.
Before the reclamation of Punggol Point in 1994, by the government, Hock Kee was situated at Punggol Point for at least 25 years. In 1992, a new location was then choosen at World Trade Centre, now known as Harbourfront. While another branch was being set up in East Coast Park in the year 1993, and later another at Housing Mall. They went back to Punggol Marina Country Club (MCC) in the year 2006. Being located at this areas, it brings back memories for patrons who used to dine by the sea at Punggol Point, admiring the water’s edge and twinkling lights of Johor on the horizon while they dine.
In June 2014, after 20 years, Ponggol Hock Kee Seafood has returned to her humble beginnings at Punggol Point – The Punggol Settlement. Some of their customers feels that traveling to enjoy their food brings them back to the Kampong days. One will find the brightly three-land-road transformed into single-lane once you have left the HDB flats behind. The old road that leads to the old seafood restaurants, remains unchanged.
Being a household name in Singapore, famous for their Chili Crabs and Ponggol Famous Mee Goreng, now features a wider range of mouth-watering dishes to choose from.
